I felt very proud to represent Australia, the country where I\u2019ve built my professional career, while also bringing my Italian heritage and my approach to cooking to Spain. <\/span><\/i>Claiming victory against chefs from around the world was an unforgettable moment and an achievement of which I will always be deeply proud,\u201d said Andrea Vignali of Al Dente Enoteca Restaurant in Australia, winner of the 2025 World Championship.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>The competitions will take place on 9, 10 and 11 November at the C\u00fapula del Milenio in Valladolid before a jury of leading figures from the gastronomic world, whose full line-up will be announced in the coming weeks.<\/b><\/li><\/ul><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>The competition rules are now available on the event website <\/b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.concursonacionaltapas.com\/\"><b>here<\/b><\/a><b>. This year also marks the 10th anniversary of the World Championship, further reinforcing Valladolid&#8217;s position as one of Spain&#8217;s foremost tapas destinations and a meeting point for chefs and hospitality professionals from around the world.<\/span><\/p><p>The 2026 edition also celebrates the 10th Valladolid World Tapas Championship.<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. From June to October, the competition follows an international qualifying tour to select the chefs who will travel to Valladolid to represent the creativity, talent and culinary identity of their respective countries. Asia and Malaysia have already hosted the first qualifying rounds, with upcoming competitions taking place in the United Kingdom, Texas, Oceania, Ecuador, India and Africa. <\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The event aims to strengthen Valladolid&#8217;s position as a leading gastronomic destination while promoting culinary culture and high-quality tourism.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b002b3c elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b002b3c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><b>What is it?<\/b><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-76760b7 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"76760b7\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>National Competition<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br><\/span><\/p><p>The National Competition is open to professional chefs currently working in hospitality establishments across Spain that serve pinchos and\/or tapas.<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Each participant may submit one original creation, with the ingredients and preparation detailed through the official online application form. <br\/><\/span><b>. The cost of the ingredients used in the recipe must not exceed \u20ac1.90.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> based on the value of the raw ingredients used in its preparation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>A jury made up of members of the Valladolid Hospitality Association and the competition&#8217;s technical committee will select up to 41 finalists. They will be joined by the winners of the four categories of the 2026 Valladolid Provincial Pinchos and Tapas Competition,<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, bringing the total number of finalists to 45. Participants from Valladolid must also complete the official registration process. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Each finalist will be paired with a local restaurant in Valladolid,<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">which will act as their host venue and provide the ingredients required to prepare the recipe.  <\/span>The finalist tapas, as well as the winning creations, will be available to the public at these partner restaurants for \u20ac3.50. Participating venues, opening times and further details will be available through the official TapasVLL app and the competition&#8217;s social media channels.<\/p>\n<p><b>The order of participation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will be determined by a draw during the competition presentation on the morning of 9 November. In the final, contestants will enter their individual cooking stations at five-minute intervals and will have a  <\/span>maximum of 25 minutes to prepare eight identical tapas: one for each of the seven judges and one for the official photography of the dish.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>World Tapas Championship<\/b><\/p><p><b><br><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Each participant may submit one tapa, with its ingredients and preparation described in the official online application form.<\/p>\n<p>As international participants may not be familiar with ingredient prices in Spain, the selection committee may contact entrants to ensure that the cost of the recipe does not exceed \u20ac1.90.<\/p>\n<p>The jury will select up to 15 international finalists,<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> who will be joined by the winner of the previous year&#8217;s National Pinchos and Tapas Competition,  <\/span>representing Spain, for a total of 16 finalists.<\/p>\n<p>Automatic qualification is granted to the top three finishers of the 2nd Asia Tapas Competition, the winner of the 2nd UK Tapas Competition, the winner of the 8th Oceania Tapas Competition, the winner of the 3rd Malaysia Tapas Competition, the winners of the 1st India, Texas, Ecuador and Switzerland Tapas Competitions, a   nd two finalists from the 1st Africa Tapas Competition, all of which are held under collaboration agreements with the Valladolid Tourism Promotion Board. <\/p>\n<p>Each selected finalist will be assigned a partner restaurant in Valladolid, where they will be able to coordinate logistics, source ingredients and complete any necessary preparations ahead of the competition<\/p>\n<p>Following the Championship, the winning tapas will be served to the public in selected restaurants across Valladolid,<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. where they will be identified as World Tapas Championship-winning creations, with the name of the chef prominently displayed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Valladolid and the Tradition of Tapas<\/b><\/p><p><b><br><\/b><\/p>\n<p>The origins of the tapa date back to 13th-century Spain<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. According to tradition, Castilian kings would cover their drinks with slices of bread, cheese or cured ham to keep dust and insects away. Over time, this practical custom spread across the country and evolved into one of Spain&#8217;s most iconic culinary traditions, becoming a defining feature of bars and restaurants nationwide.<br\/> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Valladolid has long been recognised for its rich tapas culture.
